I need to look into this myself, because I'm almost afraid to use my cell phone at times since my old live-in ex gave my number out as his number sometimes to avoid the bill collectors that were after him, and I'm still intercepting the periodic call nearly a year later asking when people are going to get their money from him. They don't seem to understand that it's been a year and we don't live together anymore.

This seems like it would be a whole lot easier than going to all of the trouble of changing my number and then having to let everyone who had my old number know about the new one, though!
